It is the day before Christmas Eve, I have to admit that I have found it hard to find the spirit of the season this year. With all the worries and cares of everyday living, it is easy to forget what this season is suppose to be about.
What is the true meaning of this season? For Christians it is the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. For those others of us, it is winter solstice and Yule time. However, what is the true meaning.
I was at work today, not in the spirit of the season, but putting on the smile and greeting and talking to customers as I normally do.
What hit me hard is when some homeless people came in and got a few things to eat and wished me a very Merry Christmas.
Here are people that have hit rock bottom, sleeping in shelters or wherever they can find to rest their heads at night, and they are wishing me a Merry Christmas with big smiles on their faces.
Needless to say that got me thinking.
What does this season really mean to me? First of all it’s family, friends and loved ones. Having a family that I love. Being grateful that they are in my life. We have a roof over our heads, our health, food to eat and clothes to wear. We don’t try and keep up with the “Jones” down the road with their big RV’s and other toys. Nor do I want to try.
I ask you now, what is the true meaning of this season to you? Is it how many gifts you get on Christmas day? How many presents you gave to others? What Are you really grateful for during this time of year? Think about it.
I will leave you with these thoughts.
Be thankful for those that truly love and care about you! Be thankful that you have your health, that you have a roof over your heads and food in the cupboards. Be more mindful of those that have not been blessed as much as you have.
From my household to yours may you have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous new Year.
Blessings to you all.
